About ABLE United
Our Story
Michelle and Jordan were both born with disabilities. Growing up, they faced several barriers and false assumptions about their current and future abilities. They both struggled through high school due to societal misconceptions. This is a story that is all too similar to many others.
Despite the false beliefs and labels put on them, they were able to succeed in life. Jordan found meaningful employment that he enjoyed and obtained his first car. Michelle attended university, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts and several certifications. Michelle went on to work with the provincial government and buy her first home.
Together, both Jordan and Michelle have gone back to school. Jordan has leveled up his career by receiving several certifications such as his forklift operator and level 1 occupational first aid certificates. Michelle has enrolled in accounting and bookkeeping certification programs. Michelle and Jordan were both fed up with the assumptions and labels put on them. They were tired of accommodations being promised but left unfulfilled. They wanted better for themselves and for others who were facing similar struggles and barriers. That is what set ABLE United in motion.
Michelle and Jordan have knocked down every barrier put in front of them, from post-secondary graduations, to home and vehicle ownership, to planning a fully accessible wedding. This is how they know these things are possible. They have lived through it and conquered it, coming out stronger than ever.
Michelle and Jordan believe a great life is possible for everyone, it just may take some help or guidance to find the right tools to reach goals that have been set. They have successfully navigated the processes and found the resources for themselves, and now they want to help you do the same. Michelle will work with you, one on one, to help set up a customized resource plan, so you don't have to sift through pages and pages of irrelevant information. There are also information packages that will soon be available for purchase, containing more generalized lists of services and resources provided nationally and provincially. These resources have been separated out so that they are not overwhelming, and you can quickly and easily find the information that is relevant to you and your province.
